Nice, decent sized sewing box

Can anyone help please? I'm looking for a nice sewing box as a gift for a friend, budget around £25. I can find plenty that are attractive, but the ones I can find that are big enough to hold dressmaking scissors are too expensive. Thanks.

have you tried john lewis?

AllBuggiedOut · 07/05/2010 22:33

Yes, theirs are either too small or too expensive.

Don't know if it would be as appropriate as a gift but I use my old baby box- they're ideal.

Have you looked at the JL ones in RL or just online?

i have this one and my dress making scissors fit in (albeit under the plastic shelf thing rather than on it...)

Just online ja9 - that one doesn't give its dimensions How big are your scissors?

My mum and I both use this tool box from B and Q as well, lots of little trays in the lid for little things and then I have little cloth bags underneath for threads/bobbins etc and everything else is chucked in.

I also use a tool box. Cheap, big, practical.

I have this one from Dunelm.

The scissors slot in the pocket things on the side.

I have searched the internet in the past for this and not found anything. They all look like they are designed for my granny (i.e. very old-fashioned). My Mum has a lovely mahogany antique one - what about an antique one (if you can find one!) I'm on the look-out too!

There's a clear gap in the market, isn't there?! But thanks LLW, I think that may be The One

Have you seen those wooden boxes (cream) with flowers painted on them in garden centres/homebase etc?, they have a lift up lid and pull out drawer. Last year I was given one of these full of sewing things and it looks lovely as an ornament too.

I have this one from B&Q, it has 2 small boxes I use for buttons and ribbons etc, it's been great. I really struggled a good one. Try looking somewhere like Hobby Craft for Craft Boxes, rather than just sewing boxes. They don't look as pretty, but do a reasonable job.
