Find some old zips and have a play. They are surprisingly easy, just need to have a go on something it doesn't matter if you mess up.

Two kind of zips (and corresponding feet) - concealed zips and the other sort (having a vacant moment). It's not hard to do but I always have to get the manual out to do it. A YouTube video might be a good starting point.

I think they must be pretty easy as I managed to do one! I just used the instruction booklet that came with my (much underused) machine.

Tack the 2 sides in place first as they have a tendency to "creep" while you sew.

i did a concealed zip the other week and thought it was surprisingly easy.

but then i had my sewing tutor watching over my shoulder. there must be a step by step guide somewhere. most patterns talk you through it.

They are easy - I did them often as a student making my own skirts. I only ever used light fabrics though, I suppose that might help.

They are actually surprisingly easy once you have had a go, and provided you have a zipper foot of course

i second youtube for some clips/tutorials.

Experiment with an old zip and some scraps of fabric before doing the real thing.
