I am going to make one. Haven't found a tutorial online that I like yet, I want it to have a zip closure, not velcro, was thinking of just making a padded cotton one, possibly with piping too.

Any advice or inspiration or owrds of encouragement would be greatly appreciated!

Good luck, that sounds like a fun project. Well do you know u-handbag.typepad.com ? She has instructions for both zips and piping which I´ve found useful in the past.

Ooooh I don't know that Cardi, thank you will have a look.

I can do zips, and piping, but not sure about doing them together lol

I made one for DH last month with a toggle closure and it was kind of like a big envelope. I use the crafster website a lot and I know there are loads of tutorials on there for them in the bags and purses forum. You need to think about how you will pad it sufficiently and ensure that the zip doesn't damage the case when you slide it in. I made myself a paper pattern by basically wrapping up the laptop so that I knew how snug it needed to be. Good luck!

I found that piping was fine when I tried (an Amy Butler bag, no less) and using a zip-foot helped. I am less skilled at putting in zips, one area where I have to concede defeat and baste by hand before machining.
