please help, you clever artistic people

Right, so here's the deal. I have been an extremely bad mother and forgotten that DS has a 'decorate an easter egg' competition tomorrow. I am the least artistic person in the world and we have a limited paint palette ( red, green, blue, yellow). Have any of you wonderful creative types got any ideas about what we can do with those colours and a hard boiled egg?

Am posting and running because have to go and pick DC's up from CM but will be back in a bit.

turn it into a mouse with grey paper ears etc, hamster, elephant etc mix all colours together should get a grey, browny colour.

When I was little we used to make amazing amber marbled hard boiled eggs - and you don't even need a paint brush, just an onion (believe it or not). So:

1. Peel all the outer layers off a couple of onions - that's the more brittle brown skin

1. wrap this onion skin around a raw egg as tightly as you can

1. warp newspaper over onion skin to hold it onto the egg as tightly as possible, and tie it on with string (old wool, thread - anything that will stay on while boiling)

1. boil egg for about 15 minutes.

It does come out looking all a bit Country Living arty farty rather than a fun kids thing, but it's unlikely anyone else will have done this. You could stick a red crest and beak on to make it look like a very pretty chicken's head.
