make a blanket out of baby clothes

I saw a film cant remember what it was called but the mother used her daughter in laws old baby clothes to make patchwork blankets. I thought that was a great idea and so I made my own.

I retrieved the old clothes out the loft and thought i would use any that had stains on from weaning etc but they all looked virtually brand new! I want to keep the clothes for any future babies but did manage to find enough that i was willing to cut to make 2 small blankets.

I started by getting a cereal box to make a square template slightly bigger than i wanted the square patches to be to allow for them being sewn together and then cut away. I even cut squares out of the front of babygros so you have the poppers still on and some have little pockets on! I find those cheap bibs you get like terry towling were great if you cut the plastic layer off.

I used a cheap cream fleece blanket that I had for the back. I made 2 blankets, one in pinks and whites and one in creams, whites and lemons to keep as a gift from dd to a new baby if we have one! They are just small so could be used for a baby or as a dolls blanket, but a lovely keepsake and I had fun making them even if the sewing machine did make me very cross!

That sounds lovely.
My friend was made one by her friend, who asked to have some of her DD's clothes for the purpose. My friend kept the blanket as a keep-sake for her DD.
I had never heard of it before that, but I thought it was a great idea.

I think one of the mason-dixon knitting ladies did a patchwork using her son and husband's old polo shirts - it looked nice in a preppy kind of way. Sorry can't find a link.

That sounds great! I'm a sap and would love to make something like that out od DS's clothes but sadly I can't sew and/or quilt.

Oooh I've got a sewing machine that I've not used yet! I could probably do something like that.
