Penguin finger puppet knitting pattern.

I thought I would appeal to all you nice arts and crafty ladies, but I know this is a bit of a long shot....

Ds2, about a year ago, lost his knitted penguin finger puppet. He is a penguin fanatic and despite having about 25 penguin soft toys, he still misses "Chris". I thought we would find him last weekend when we packed up our belongings (finally!) to move to our new house, but to no avail. I have to admit, I was crying at not being able to find it for him!

I know who made it for him and am thinking of asking her to make another one, although I don't know her. So to save me from having to approach a stranger, I wondered if anyone knows of a knitting pattern for a penguin finger puppet (literally, it was about 2 inches tall) so I could make ds2 a new one.

Thanks.

Just asking again as ds2 has just come downstairs crying because he wants Chris back. He knows Chris is gone forever, so the pattern wouldn't have to be exactly the same as his old one, but if I could only knit him a Chris replacement, I know it would make him very happy this Christmas.

Please, anyone? I could even draw him if anyone is able to make up knitting patterns from pictures?

Do you have pictures of it? I might be able to help.

Lm, have you seen this site? Look under dolls and animals, then animal finger puppets. They have a penguin. I have bought stuff from them before - very nice to deal with. Don't order through the website though (postage is flat rate and high), do it via email and they'll work out the postage if you are just buying one finger puppet.

Lonelymum · 29/11/2005 21:33

Thanks for replying. Franke, that finger puppet is much more sophisticated than ds2's penguin and about half the width IYSWIM.

Yes NQC I do have one photo of ds2 holding it but of course he is holding it, he does not have his finger up the puppet so you can see it properly. It might give you an idea of the simplicity of it though.

If I had to describe it, it would be about two finger's breadth, white on front, black behind and to sides, the beak was literally one or two orange stitches in the face, not 3D as in all puppets I have found. It was straight knitting until the top when it was obviously rounded a bit. It had tiny black wings sewn on to it - actually those show up quite well in the photo. I can't remember what made the eyes but, like the beak, just knitting of a differet colour (black?) in the white of the face.

These aren't penguins, but might help in terms of the basic structure, maybe?

Lonelymum · 29/11/2005 21:52

Yes thank you Tamum, i could have a fiddle around and see how I get on. (I think our penguin was a bit better than these but I agree with you, this might get me started.)

FOUND this cute set including a penguin on ebay

also this one i don't like so much...but i reckon you'd be able to improve him..i hate the eyes!!!

MrsFrostgetful · 29/11/2005 23:56

meant to say i am bidding..and if i win i will send you the penguin....

about 6 years ago my middle son lost his duck.... it broke my heart...and like you i believed it would turn up.... we bought a replica...but he'd worn the fur away in one place by the label...so he knew it was not the old one....

so i totally understand his distress- and yours.

if i win the set...i would like to keep the rudolph (for my 6 yr old....) and the snowman & bear for my dad!!!!!)...so YOU only have to have the penguin!!!!

However...if it's not suitable (it prob is not knitted)..... i will not mind...as i can put the penguin in my son's stocking to keep rudoplh happy!!!

Lonelymum · 30/11/2005 09:04

Thanks MrsFrostgetful, he doesn't look a bit like ds2's "Chris" (I would say the puppets that Tamum found are the nearest sort of thing to Chris, although of course none of them are penguins) but ds2 is making it his business to adopt every penguin in the entire world so he would willingly house your penguin if it needed a home!

I am going to have a go at knitting one myself using Tamum's pattern and the photo I have of the real Chris, and see how I get on. Will let you know!

thats good...i'll let you know...i can then get it to you by christmas!

my son is the same..... loves EVERY type of kitten toy around....i dread it when they have a new colour in the shops!!!! he always NEEDS it!!!

ItllBeLonelymumThisChristmas · 01/12/2005 14:43

Well, I have made one, using a combination of Tamum's pattern (thanks ever so much for that Tamum - it just gave me the start I needed!) and the photo I have of ds2 holding the original. If it were just a question of making a penguin finger puppet, I would say I have made a better job than the original, but of course ds2 will just want as close to the original as possible...well, not a bad job in that department either! Thanks to anyone who replied.

MrsFrostgetful · 05/12/2005 01:01

i have won the ebay set...so if you do want the penguin...let me know...i am happy to keep it if you don't want it...no pressure!!!!
