Knitting a funky hat

i want to knit a funky winter hat for my daughter, colourful and perhaps with stripes or spots - the kind with a flower on the side, knitted or perhaps in felt. I know these are usually crocheted, but i don't know how to crochet and i do know how to knit. Any links to patterns?

Ravelry have lots of patterns, many free.

someone in a recent knitting magazine i bought (sorry just posted it as a mothers day gift so no idea which one) had an ad for a book on funky knitted hats.

There are some lovely hats/gloves/scarves in it and I have just finished knitting butterfly pixie hoods for the dcs.
