Has anyone seen or done one?

Are you a member of ravelry? You can search for patterns on there, it's a brilliant resource.

DutchOma · 07/03/2010 18:48

Is this what you mean? There is also a pattern on Ravelry which costs $6 and doesn't look anything like this.

The latest Debbie Bliss magazine has one:

here one long one short I think this might be DK weight yarn.

This is an american site but you can buy this mag in the UK, just google it.

Sublime have this one scroll down as well which looks rather horrid here but you could knit it plain, rather than patterned. Aran weight.

heres one in DK (stripey!) but once again you could knit it plain here looking more closely it has something going on in the sleeves as well though.

Basically a waterfall cardigan is a plain cardigan but with extended square fronts, so you could improvise if you felt keen.

Now if you want it in cashmere it will be quite a lot! DK cashmere: here is £13.20 for a small ball. Aran cashmere here here can also be found discounted in some places. A cashmere mix would be much more affordable.

I am a member but haven't tried there yet. There are some lovely patterns on that site DutchOma. Thanks anyway.

I think we've scared her away. Come to Mumsknitters on Ravelry, bunjies!

Actually Colourmart is probably the cheapest source of cashmere - but tricky to use unless you are reasonably experienced.

DutchOma · 08/03/2010 21:13

Colourmart is yet another American buy in $ site.
I need some soft Aran weight stuff to make a baby nest, 8st and 16 rows to 4" on needles no 8mm (11 US). It is done in Lion Brand Velvet yarn, which apparently is a pig to knit with and sheds like any old thing, but I can get only one ball of blue in this country. all the rest has to come from America. And this is for a baby which is due on 1st April (no kidding, so I don't have the time to wait for it to come from the USA.

florenceuk · 08/03/2010 22:55

Colourmart are actually based somewhere up north (ignorant Londoner) but price in $ and in £. I ordered some cashmere but found it had a really unusual row gauge so it is just sitting there at the moment!

I wonder if you could double this:

chenille yarn and get it to work for your cocoon?

DutchOma · 09/03/2010 09:14

That's not bad at all, thanks for that. I'll have a look at it later and see if they have the blue or the white.

Hello!

The two websites I use for all my free patterns are www.garnstudio.com and www.knittingpatterncentral.com. You can usually find whatever you need on there.

I've transferred our discussion to Ravelry Florence. To the Mumsknitters. About time we had some life into that forum.

bunjies · 09/03/2010 16:33

No, you haven't scared me away . In fact I thought I'd replied yesterday but must have deleted my message by mistake.

Wanted to thank you florenceuk for that link to the Debbie Bliss cardicoat. I really like it and am trying to buy the mag on ebay ATM. I appreciate what you're saying about the price of cashmere so I was thinking you're right about getting a mix. Perhaps cashmerino. I'm not sure of the gauge though so will have to check once I've got hold of the pattern.

I'll try and join you on Ravelry. Do I just do a search for Mumsknitters (great name!)

Yep, once you have registered, just go to 'groups' and type in Mumsknitters. Nice to have a bit of life back into that group, it has been dormant for too long.

florenceuk · 09/03/2010 21:18

search for my name - I'm the same here and there - and it will come up as one of the groups I am on. The cardi coat is aran, if you go to Cucumberpatch they have some cashmere tweed at £3 per 35g ball in kind of oatmeally colours (you'll need a lot though!)
