My MIL had a stroke a few weeks ago and her recover is quite slow. She is still in hospital and will almost certainly be either there or, with any luck, in the rehab ward on her birthday in about 6 weeks.
I have made her (on DH's request) a large flower in Aston VIlla colours for her bedside but I was thinking of making a lap blanket or a shawl or something for her to brighten her bed.

i woudl love whatever it is to include the Villa emblem and I have enough claret and blue yarn to do more stuff like stripes or something.
Any ideas? How would I best do the crest? I need a filet pattern for a rampant lion, aagh!

I'm sorry, this isn't my subject, but the juxtaposition of your user name and the thread title is brilliant.

I hope your mother-in-law makes a good recovery.

Good point! I might need to start another thread.

jackBauer needs help with crocheting terrorists windpipes or something

Thanks.

Hi Jack

I think you'd struggle to get sufficient detail in a filet design for this. Could you use some iron-on badges instead? I;ve recently used iron-emblems on crocheted hats and they actually work really well. Maybe you could put one on each corner.

Failing that you could probably work your own design out by copying the emblem onto squared paper. Each square=one stitch, adjust the size to get enough detail. Make the emblem solid in one colour (yellow) and the backgroud stitch one miss one a contract colour (pale blue) then embroider on the eye.

hth and hope MIL is feeling better

Thanks. Have had a proper look and I think an iron-on emblem would be the most sensible idea.
was going to make the rest out of blocks, stipes, solids, diagonals that sort of thing, for a patchwork blanket thing in the team colours and then I will iron on an emlbem or 2 in an appropriate palce.
Is it too cheesy to add her initials or that of the DGC's?
It doesn't need to be too big I don't think, just a lap one, maybe a metre square or something?
