Hello!

Please help me work out what on earth the instruction in brackets on round 12 of this crocheted bird pattern means. I know what the stitches are, but what does 'in flo of next four stitches mean (is it the first four of the 10 stitches you are told to do in the previous instruction? - where do all those subsequent stitches in the brackets go?

I am a beginner so probably have little chance of understanding this - don't worry if it is too difficult to explain, but thanks if you try!

I should probably just give up but I have got this far and it is a really lovely shape so far...

Hi could it be something like 'front loops of'?
I notice in a following round it has 'blo' which could then be 'back loops of'
Does what it's going to be give you a clue? For example I haven't read right through but could imagine that at some point you will join in a different colour for the tail and the 'b' and 'f' will be something to do with the hole for the tail. Hope that makes sense. Good luck. They are cute.

(insert hook into) front loop only/back loop only

see nice discussion of blo and flo here

Yay I was nearly right!

Indeed, comfy!

It looks like a lovely pattern. I luuurve amigurumi ... but am more of a knitter m'self.

Thank you all so much - I am so grateful. Now I can (try and) get on with my lovely bird!

I'm still a bit confused about which stitches they are - the first four of the ten previous?

Hang on though - I'll have a go before getting myself more confused!

Thanks again

I was going to say front loop too, hope it works.

Specialsmasher, in case you haven't worked this out I've edited the pattern so it should be a bit clearer for you. Basically you are working increase stitches (creating two stitches) into each of these 4 stitches:

sc next 4, dec sc, sc next st, dec sc, sc next 10, (in front loop of next 4 sts, work, [1 hdc and 1 dc in stitch 1] [2dc in stitch 2] [2dc in stitch 3] [1 dc and 1 hdc in stitch 4] You will now have created 8 stitches from the original 4) sc nx 8 st (33)
