Cut n sew / Clothkits type kits - anyone got any links to more please?

Have nearly finished a set of vintage American Xmas decs from a cut-n-sew printed panel. I really like the idea of Clothkits but I just can't stand their prints! Just too retro for me, my tutor at school had a postcard skirt so similar to one in their new range . On the other hand, I've found a few US sewing kits but they are v sickly and cheesey looking or just for kids.
Does anyone know of anything similar out there? Are there any WAHMs out there perhaps making pre-cut kits perhaps?

TIA.

Watching with interest! I just made a clothkits skirt, it was the dark grey and black one...I don't like the postcard type prints either but some of their stuff is very nice.

I've got a mulberry Big bird skirt

I LOVE it

Ooh Boys...did you make it yself?

If so please tell me how you managed the lining issue. I ended up sewing mine to the main skirt hem, to hide the horrid hems...have not got a zig zagger on my machine! And now it goes all rumply.

Might have to adapt it.

just get some patterns and buy material you like

moocowme · 22/02/2010 19:57

where do you live? do you want me to come and give you sewing lessons?

BoysAreLikeDogs · 22/02/2010 21:08

phhhhh no I didn't make it myself

A mate made it for me bless her

I feel like I'm SOMEONE striding out in it with my long boots

Flightattendant · 23/02/2010 11:25

oh i really like Clothkits designs especially the old 70's patterns!

GladioliBuckets - i don't think it's something you find much tbh
if you want to make your own clothes i'd suggest taking a basic class and starting with simple patterns, there are lots of gorgeous fabrics out there and lovely sewing books - also Flossie Teacakes has been blogging her adcventures in dressmaking recently makes interesting reading.

Ah cheers all, will have to pull myself together and stop being such a lazy sod.

Re the prints, think I'm just from the wrong era for current retro fashion, means I'm now officially old I guess. Like I don't get why all the young men on tv ads have the kind of haircuts you used to get on lonely paedos (you know, just a bit too long, lank side parting, need a shave, look a bit smelly.) I remember my older sister really struggling with the idea of bootleg jeans because well, they were flares weren't they?
