Ink or paint for a baby growth wall chart?

Hi

I bought a length of white cloth and some fabric pens in order to make a wall chart to mark off the growth of our new baby. I'd also like, if possible, to put footprints or handprints on at various points to show visually how the baby grows.

But I'm not sure of what ink or paint is best? Will it be safe for baby? Will it run into the cloth or what can I use to prevent this? Where do I buy the ink/paint?

Any ideas or recommendations very gratefully received!
