Making a rug from rags

Did try searching this in previous threads but not especially helpful.
Can anyone give me any tips (books/instruction sheets etc)on using old clothes to make a rug?
I saw it demonstrated, where the lady was using a bit of hessian/sacking and some kind of little tool to push bits of fabric through the holes?

There are a couple of methods - I have a couple of books with instructions, Ill have a look tommorrow and see if they are any good.

Definately a worthwhile project - but not one I have got round to yet!

This shows how to make a latch hook rug with wool yarn, but I assume the principle is the same with fabric

Also, if you can crochet I made a gorgeous rug for the DD@s room out of an old cot sheet using this method.

one of my crafts books (think its fabricate) shows a good fast method for making a rug that has a similar finish to doing latch hook. must see if i can find a link to something similar.
