Might be the pattern - they are often written wrong. If you got this far don't give up yet! Have another go and just make it up as it feels right. It'll only be a few stitches. Otherwise have a look at another similar pattern to compare.

Or go to bed and try again tomorrow!

i think thats the problem-no pattern.i cant read them so didnt look for one.maybe i should thanks.

There are loads of vids on youtube explaining things like hdc2tog (half double crochet two together - it's a decrease, sorry if you already know that)

I can never remember what they mean - especially when switching between knitting and crochet so I use the vidio's to remind me.

I have made loads fo fingerless gloves with a thumby bit without a pattern, shall see if I can explain.

I increase each row on teh thumb side until the glove is just above the height of the thumb join and then I join the open top of the glove over the thumb joint through the stitches. I then go in teh round up the thumb so the stitching will look a bit 'sideways' until it reaches the top of the thumb (it's normally rounds of about 12-14 stitches) and decrease at the top to close. then rejoin the yarn back at the thum b joint and carry on in rounds around the fingerbit.

Does that make any sense at all, am very tired
