papier mache- how to??

With the summer holidays looming, could anyone tell me how to make papier mache? I know its something to do with plastering wet newspapers over a balloon, but do you use glue?

Last time I did something like this, I used strips of newspaper and PVA glue (you get it at Art & Craft shops. Put a piece of newspaper on the balloon, smother it in PVA glue and carry on till all the balloon's covered. Leave it to dry and you can do more layers if you want.
You can use flour & water 'glue' if you want, but it takes longer to dry than PVA and is more messy.

mix pva glue with water, half and half.
