I'd like to make a rag doll type thing with clothes

Is there a really lovely kit somewhere? I would like to make a selection of clothes, so a basic (ish) doll and patterns for clothes would be ideal. I only hand-stitch, having never mastered machines (!) but I guess this wouldn't make any difference to the choices available?

All suggestions gratefully received...

Maybe try searching "handmade rag doll" on Google Images to give you some ideas, follow a few links to craft blogs and then just have a go yourself? I am making a few varieties of cloth bunnies after doing that.

Surely kits take away some of the mistakes fun?

How about these

oh, sweeet! now I have fallen in love with the 1970s dungarees for kids pattern though.

though probably cruel to a child. boo.

These are cute - and hand-sewn! Not sure how robust the felt would be for long-term use, though.

I have a great Butterick pattern that is sadly out of print, that I've used for two dolls and a whole wardrobe of outfits. You could try the major pattern companies - look in their Craft section (and try to avoid the dog costumes ).

Ooh! I didn't realise anyone had responded to this - thank you so much all - will check out links now.

the clothkits stuff is fantastic. I didn't think you could get cloth kits - dreamy!

And the felt doll is just beautiful.

Decisions! The clothkits might just be bit too easy, but then the felt one might be a bit too hard...

Wow, I've still got my original Clothkits doll and now it's vintage! So I can testify that it will last a long time!

I have half made the doll on the link you gave, Skiffler. My felt is obviously not as good as the beautiful stuff (at $8.50 a sheet!) they are using on there.

Anyone any idea where to get beautiful 100% felt in lovely non-primary colours? I have done a few searches, but at best come up with American sites. I might start a thread on this as it would get more views, maybe.

I have also bought the Clothkits boy and girl as a birthday present for me (to make), which will then be a birthday present for my dd to have! Everybody's happy.
