For cross stitch materials. I am new into this craft and don't have any idea if Hobbycraft is expensive or whether there is an obvious cheaper alternative.

if you buy online you also need to add on posage so for small purchases it comes out more expensive. i found hobbycraft reasonable for this sort of thing but then i always seem to buy a few other things as well while i am their so that always makes it more expensive.

Thank you moocowme. I will have to be very disciplined and go straight to the embroidery cottons so I am not tempted by the other things there. I did come across what seemed like very cheap cotton online but I prefer to handle things before I buy.

I'm always disappointed by Hobbycraft in that they never seem to have any special offers on their cross stitch stuff. Then again I have a very good local shop Nifty Needles in Linlithgow and I'd rather give them the custom. There is also Black Sheep Wool online where there are a good few bargain price kits and things, even with the p&p added.

Well, as our local craft shop shut down about 2 years ago, I am left with the choice of Hobbycraft or John Lewis. Any preferences? Once I know what things are, I will probably look at getting them online as I am suspect it would be cheaper as long as p&p is reasonable.

JL always seem to stock the more upmarket brands. i found this especially with wool. but it is quality stuff.
