Dd2's craft group is finished for Xmas. She has just told me she wants to "Gloob glittry". Dd1 is jelous that we have many home made decorations from dd2, but she hasn't made any, so she would also like to gloob glittry.

I am the most uncreative person you could ever meet.

DS1 has come home from school with a fairy made from a paper plate. Something like that? What materials do you have?

ShinyAndNew · 20/12/2009 13:54

We have no materials. I am sure there is some pritt stick somewhere ...

I'm off to Tesco tommorrow though to stock up. They like glitter and pink.

But yes, thats the sort of thing, they want to stick and paint decorations for the tree/mantle. I haven't got a clue and don't know where to start.

paper plate angel

You could help with the cutting out and then leave them to all the decorating.

ShinyAndNew · 20/12/2009 13:59

Ooh yes, they would like that. And we have no Angel for the top of either tree.

That's where we put ours. It's better than any bought one.

We have made - hand print father christmas, rudolphs and snowmen which are laminated and hung on the tree, we have also made penguins and robins - I precut the shapes and dc 2.2 stuck all the pieces where he thought they should go - also just gave him strips of paper ie white, red or brown and got him to collage bits on ie eyes, mouths, buttons to make snowman, father christmas and reindeer. we also made cards using our footprints to look like snowmen and also just did some glittery gluing on plain card, also shaped card ie xmas tree, snowmen, we also made christmas wrapping paper with brown paper and paint using playdough cutters.

We have some very effective tree decorations made from a brown cardboard box (I seem to have loads of these at the moment due to online shopping), cut into christmas shapes and then decorated using PVA and glitter. I think some of ours were made by DS1 when he was 18 months old.
If you prefer to do something without glue try getting some shiny wrapping paper (plain colour is best, draw round a plate and cut it out. Then fold the circle into 6 or 8 and cut shapes out of the edges, as long as you don't cut all the way across the segment, when you open it up you have a fab looking snow flakes. We have all made some, DS2's are simpler than mine in design but they all look good!

Ohh snowflakes. I used to make those. They'd like that. I might do them with coloured card and let them paint/decorate them themselves.
