I've knitted the main body of the hat and have come to the part of the instructions where you knit within the 'u' and I'm stuck! PLEASE can someone have a quick peep and tell me what to do because I was hoping to finish it tonight. TIA

Where are you stuck at?

CharCharGabor · 15/12/2009 21:21

It's where you have to pick up and knit 20 stitches across the u shape. I don't get how to do it at all.

Mmmm.

I think you are picking up 20 stitches across the U, so 10 from one side and 10 from another, then knitting those according to the rest of the pattern.

Thanks I've tried but I just can't figure it out, maybe I'm too much of a novice. I can't even see where I can pick up the stitches tbh.

There will be little loops where you have cast each stitch off. Pick 20 of them and put a needle through them, then knit them as you would normally.

Sorry, I'm more of a doer than a teacher!

TaurielTest · 15/12/2009 21:53

"pick up and knit" is a bit of a misleading phrase. it really means "hook up a series of loops onto your needle, which you will then knit with as if it's a cast-on row" - there's no actual knitting in the process, IYSWIM. Read this, I think it should help!

Thanks both of you, I have managed to pick up 20 stitches although I'm not sure if it's right. Hopefully I'll find out in a few rows!
