What can I make for my Dad for Christmas?

I haven't seen him for 3.5y - long and complicated history - but I'm just trying to re-build a relationship and would like to make a present to send him for Christmas this year.

I'm completely stuck for ideas because of him being a man!

I would prefer to sew, for speed reasons, but I can knit and crochet too - I'm a bit crappy at embroidery...

Difficult.

How about a nice, drawstring glasses case with his name on it?

Well that's a good suggestion, but just goes to show how bad the situation is - I had to think twice to think what name would go on it!

I wonder if I could applique it on...

Any other ideas?

It sounds like you have a lot invested in this present. It must be tricky if you haven't seen him for 3.5 years. Very tough for all concerned.

Most home made pressies tend to be a bit girl I guess. Much easier to think of something to make for a woman or a girl.

You could knit him some socks? Or a scarf?

a cushion - you can get inner ones for about 69p from ikea

very quick and easy to sew but you can make lovely personal designs

What about a simple quilt, doesn't have to be too big and doesn't have to be lots of sewing.

A few pieces of material sewn together backed with a soft fleece material is nice.

Knitted scarf sounds nice. I do like the cushion idea, if I could put a lot of thought into the design. And the quilt...

I've made my dad a scarf. It's a navy fleece material on one side and a silky patterned material on the other, simple enough to make. Hope you decide on something suitable.

I've bought some flex frames and I'm going to make him a really nice glasses case - just got to design it now!
