Hat designs - any good ideas please?

Calling anyone with a good imagination/creative streak.

Both dc's are entering a 'design a hat' competition. Don't believe it has to be a Christmas theme.

Something straightforward and easy for them to make (with only a little help from me) as it's supposed to be all their own work.

Any ideas anyone?

How old they?

Could they sew or knit/crochet as that would win brownie points for making it from scratch I am sure.
Beyond that I have no idea

Dd is 11 and ds is 9. They have roughly mastered sewing but as for knitting and crochet, I think it's a bit of a tall order for them...

I wondered about a christmas cake hat, not very original though is it?

Sounds good to me.
Do they only have to do one or one each?
You could have a turkey and a christmas cake.

(not sure how though, am rubbish at hats!)
