Fancy dress outfit

DD is going to her first fancy dress party at nursery, she is 21mo.

I quite fancy making her an outfit, rather than buying something.

Any suggestions? I am handy (I think) but never really made an outfit before.

How about a fairy? You could make a tutu and fairy wings, there are lots of tutorials online for them.

An angel would be festive. A simple white dress or tunic, bought wings and I'm sure there must be some halo headbands in the shops. Also loads of free patterns and ideas online - just google 'angel costumes, free patterns'.

I'm sure she'll look gorgeous.

I sent my 22 month old DD to nursery this morning as a xylophone (the theme was "something from my toy box).
Sheet felt was £2.99 a metre, so I made her a black felt tunic using a dress as a rough guide for size and sewed on the "keys" made of coloured felt down the front, with a button at each end of the "key" to represent the little things that hold the keys on. The whole thing cost about 3 or 4 quid and took a couple of hours to make.
I am now inspired to make many more costumes out of felt. It's cheap, colourful and doesn't fray.

Great ideas, thanks.

Esp. love the xylophone, am going to bank that one for another time!
