Help, I need to ask a knitting question!

I am making a matinee jacket. Tis a slightly ambitious project as I am at what you could describe as a beginner-intermediate level.

I am doing the shaping the neck bit and the pattern says cast off 5 sts (which I have done) and then patt to end. What the flip does that mean? I have been using moss stitch up until then.

It means carry on in the pattern, ie in this case, moss stitch, until the end of the row.
