Not entirely sure how to do this!!! I can't physically paint the room(rented) although less adhesive stickers might be okay.

They are thinking more along the lines of floaty ceiling, fairy lights, sparkly things...

what sort of crafty bits for a fairy/dragon room would you make?

I would use lots of gauze with glitter
lots of flowery things
theres some gorgeous dragonflies that would work (will find a link)

ok cant find the ones I meant and I know this isnt fairies to be exact but I would use lot sof bits such as
these

glow in the dark bits (fireflies)

this kind of thing

ooooooh thank you :D

As I have just aquired a sewing machine, I'm debating trying to make some nice fairy-eque floor cushions too.... (gulp)

they want their bunk beds decorated too! Don't know with what! Unless I gauze under the top on and on the ceiling above it!!!

A friend has fairy lights around her bunks but I'd panic about the fire risk!

Ikea do battery operated fairy lights that don't get hot, both my DD's have them as night lights. They also do those nice canopy things that hang from the ceiling. I got DD some nice fairy wall plaques off e-bay. If you got some netting could you use drawing pins to drape it from the ceiling to make the room look more like a cave? I'm always a bit worried about dust with things like that though.

You can get curtain tension rods which go nicely in doorways without having to make holes. You could then make an appropriate looking cave entrance with some material.

What about little mobiles made of wire with crocheted/felted/sparkly things hanging from it?

lunavix · 20/09/2009 20:55

Thanks for the ideas everyone! What do you think an appropriate looking cave entrance is??!!!

Well, you could have...

  • grey curtains with fabric painted dark grey lines on to make them look like cracked stones with pink fake fur or sequin trim to hint at the inside of the cave
  • or pink netting with sequins on (buy cheap net curtains and dye them pink and add the sequins)
  • or beaded curtain type things, but with jewels rather than beads.

Why not ask the girls to draw the entrance to an imaginary fairy dragon cave, so they can only just see in and see what they come up with as ideas? I imagine if they're young enough to want such a room, they're young enough to like drawing.

Bear in mind, try to use curtain materials with fire retardant properties.
