How do I attach my sugarcraft butterflies to the cake?

I have a plain fondant iced cake and have made loads of little butterflies from petal paste and decorated them with lustre. I now need to attach them to the cake. Do I need that special glue stuff? or would a little blob of icing do? the only thing on-line recommended butter cream but I think that would be too big and bulky. Any experts out there? thanks

Make up some icing but a bit runnier than normal IYKWIM. Little blob on the cake then put the butterflies on before it dries. Da-dah!

Make up some royal icing, or you can buy sugar glue.

thanks! I'm so excited, it's the first time I've done any sugar craft and they do look so pretty. I have a whole flock of different sized butterflies ready to land on dd's cake.
