Sewing help please..... how do I hem

....heavy fabric?

Am making roman blinds and usually would use the hemming foot on my sewing machine but I reckon it will be too bulky.

Do I have to only turn it once and have a raw edge?

Thanks in advance!

I would probably use some sort of zigzag along the raw edge just to protect it, then hem with it just turned up once.

Thanks AMIS, you've given me confidence!

you could also try putting some binding along the edge and then just turning once. or just leave it with the binding showing.

you could put some ribbon along the edge as well.

THought of using the hemming tape stuff that you iron on - I sometimes double up and use it in combination with the zig-zag one turn up approach if the hem is subject to rough and tough treatment.
