My only sister is getting married in August and I want to make something as a gift for her, something special that she will want to keep. I just don't know what to make! suggestions please?

What about a photo frame that you have decorated with crystals/stones? (ebay).

Onlyaphase · 29/04/2009 21:26

Photo montage of lots of shots of her growing up and meeting her DH. Can you get hold of photos of her DH as well?

Take some photos at the ceremony and outside afterwards of the guests then pop tp boots of morrisons on way to reception and print them off and stick them in a book and get everyone to write a nice note next to their picture as they won't be getting an album for a while and it is noce to have photos to show everyone straight away.

photo frame might be an option.
My DH is a professional photographer, he is doing the wedding photographs.

my friend cross stitched a lovely kind o9f poem for us and had it framed...

it has the word "marriage" down one side, and a line beside each letter...

m made for eachother, thats what you are!
a is for amour..thats what you're in!
r is.....etc..

our names are at the top...its fab, i love it and its still hung on my wall after 11 years.

How about a framed script of one of their readings, or the lyrics to their first dance etc? You can make it look lovely if you use beautiful handmade paper, a mount to match the colours of their wedding, and perhaps add some decoration to it like pressed flowers from bouquets/table decorations?

Wow, some lovely suggestions!

I made my friend a bed throw - patchwork design (not quite quilted, as there was no padding in it) in their wedding colours.
I'd only recommend it if you're happy sewing though - it took ages, and even now I sometimes panic that it was actually a bit crap!

I thought it was very pretty at the time though...

I've been considering doing a quilt, just find it a bit daunting as I've never made one before. Do you think it would be possible to make a nice quilt as a first attempt?

My cousin secretly acquired some of the fabric from the bridesmaid dresses, waistcoats etc. and made dh and me a beautiful padded photo album with our initials embroidered on it. She bought an ordinary album and then made a padded fabric cover for it. It looked beautiful.

jemart · 29/04/2009 22:27

Aha! that sounds like a more managable quilting project, I should be able to manage a book cover.

ok so this is not a great gift, but someone once told me they made book with swatches of all the gift wrap their wedding pressies came in, along with the details of who gave them what.

I've just seen this
and this

Would like to try sewing a throw like these, any idea where I can get fabric like this in the UK?
I just looked on ebay but all the nice stuff is in America!

Smaller but simpler - if you can embroider, how about doing a cushion for the rings?
