can anyone recommend a first sewing book for an 8 year old?

I'd like my dd to learn to hand sew. She's 8 1/2 and keen to get started.

Can anyone recommend a good book to use for the beginning, maybe with some nice (not too girly projects)? I can sew a button on or soemthing like that but I am not a great sewer myself so the book has to be quite straight-forward

How about a kit? I have been looking at the ones on the bottom row for DH's niece who is the same age.

How about these They have two types of sewing - embroidery and quilting. Quilting would teach basic sewing skills.

Thanks niecie. I hadn't really looked at kits, maybe I should. I like that Usborne one you linked to, haven't come across that before.

Well she is starting to want to thread needles and playing about with felt so I thought she could maybe learn how to thread, do a note, some basic stitches and then make a few projects to get the hand of it. I'm not really the best arts & crafts mum so I was looking for a nice simple book to go through step by step and get the basic skills.

I have visions of me making a fabulous quilt actually but I suspect it will never eventuate. I like those too, they would both be good but I htink she might need something more basic first.
