Making fabric hearts - help please?!

Hello,

having been cheeky and requesting lots of fabric samples from various websites, I have been amusing myself during breaks from my newborn with creating fabric hearts for her room.

Problem is after stitching them good sides inwards and leaving a gap to turn them out, when I do, the bow of the heart is always puckered, what am I doing wrong and how can I get it right please?

TIA is anyone knows!

you need to snip round the fabric on the outer edge of the seam. ie snip little lines in towards the stitch line.

I used to make and sell them and once turned out and stuffed I cut around with a pair of pinking shears. Gives a different effect.

To get rid of puckering maybe you have a little fabric not quite turned out. You can use a pin to pick the fabric from the right side into shape.

Also, experiment with different shape hearts, some work better than others.

An easier and different-looking style would be to sew the two pieces together right sides out, first with a plain stitch about 1/4 inch in from the edge, then oversew (ie looping the thread round the edge) around the outside in a contrasting colour. Or, if you have a machine, do a tight zigzag stitch around the edge. The stuffed heart will then have a pretty sticking-out "border".

For the inside out version, yes you just need to make sure the seam is trimmed very close to the stitching where the heart puckers, or snip into the seam in that area.

Wow, brilliant ladies, thanks! Very quick too.

Will try those tips today. I don't have a machine but I think I know how to do a whipstitch if all else fails!

thanks again.
