can any tell me an equivalent wool to Debbie Bliss cashmerino? Can I use any sort of baby wool?

I want to make the garter stitch baby blanket in her Baby Knits for Beginners book.

cashmerino is the blend - it comes in different gauges - eg aran, double knit (dk) etc - do you mean the one with squares?

if so, that's an aran (quite thick so will knit up quicker than say dk) - so you can choose another aran weight yarn - eg a wool blend, or cotton if you'd prefer, it depends on what kind of "drape", warmth and washability you want.

having said that you can use any yarn for a blanket - ie not necessarily knit it to the same scale she has, it will just come out a different size. the best guide for needles is written on the ball band from the yarn it should have a little pic with the mm size on it (american sizes are different)

does that help?

thanks Bundle... yes, it's the square one. I'll have a good look at the shop later and take notice of the needle size guide on the wool. I haven't seen that before.

if you say did it in dk then you'd need more squares as they'd work out smaller than the aran - unless you did more stitches - or perhaps you could keep it small eg a pram sized one
