Couple of sewing questions

Does anybody please know where I can get big squares of felt from? Am talking cushion cover size, rather than the A4 sized rectangles they sell in craft shops.

Also - could anybody please explain to me how to use bias binding?

Many thanks.

Hello!
This is the only place I remember seeing large sheets of felt- they do 1/2 metre and 1m IIRC, and do differing thicknesses too.
It is quite expensive though....
I'm sure John Lewis sell it too.... as I have bought offcut pieces cheaply from there in the past- colour selection is probably smaller though- I can check next time I'm in there (pretty frequently these days... great parent room for feeding DS when we're out and about)

Bias binding, someone else will have to help with.

EachPeachPearMum · 18/04/2009 20:52

This company too and they have viscose felt which is cheaper as well... though if you're making a cushion, you might want to stick with wool, for stroking attractiveness!

Not used them myself but you can buy felt by the metre here

PolkSaladLucie · 18/04/2009 20:53

Hobbeycraft sell it on a roll, you buy by the metre like fabric.

You lot are brilliant - thank you!

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh to the price though - I saw lovely cushions in Liberty yesterday and thought we could make something for much cheaper but actually it would be as cheap to buy the cushions!

Yes please, EachPeach - if you could check out John Lewis for me, that would be great: it's always good to have an excuse to go to John Lewis!

Now - bias binding anybody please?

Have seen this cardigan and fancied having a play!

Thats quite a nice little blog...

janeite · 18/04/2009 21:28

It's lovely, isn't it?

Tis all your fault though - you have got me into Craftster and now I can't stop myself!

This one is the nicest blog I've discovered though: I think I'm in love!

Think John Lewis sell some felt by the metre. Maybe in the upholstery fabrics section.

This is the best bias binding tutorial I know of - hope it helps

angry chicken

Liz - that does more than help: it's absolutely amazing. Thank you so much.

I love AngryChicken - why didn't I think to look there?

I only got round to making my own bias and applying it last week, so I'm a novice in that department too but it went on perfectly.

I like the black apple too

janeite · 18/04/2009 21:52

Yes - gotta love those little Black Apple dollies.
