Customising a t-shirt with fabric markers

I want to customise a t-shirt for my daughter to celebrate her Daddy coming home after several months away. I just want to do something really simple using fabric markers and am not very artistic! I could get sth printed, but would rather avoid the expense as it is a one off. Can anyone give me any tips?

Thanks

If you have a colour printer & scanner, you could get some t-shirt transfer paper instead? And put a photo of your DH on it withsome words?

You can buy sets of fabric paints for about £6 and a plain t-shirt for a couple of pounds so won't cost alot. Some felt tip pens are a bugger to get off so it might be cheaper to use an old t-shirt and test them out.

What are you looking for? I'm designing t-shirts so could help.

Wow - thanks for the offer! Hubby is in the army and is returning from overseas operations. He missed our girl's first birthday too! I just wanted something to say "Welcome Home Daddy" or even better something that doesn't actually say "welcome home" so she could use it again??? He comes home in just over a week and I am absolutely hopeless at art!

There are things you can buy from a craft shop which can transfer a photo onto a t-shirt, maybe a photo of her blowing her candles out/on her birthday then use fabric paint to write "Happy you are home" or something? Do try the felt tip pens, ideally on a wrag as some of them don't come off t-shirts.

Thanks for the ideas. We live in Germany so will have to hunt about for the stuff but will give it a go!
