knitting-what does this mean?

pattern says decrease 1 st each end of next and evry following third row

the next row is knit row, so i'll decrease there , but then do i do one more row and then decrease on the next, then count three more/
help please im confused!!

i would take that as
row 1: decrease at each end
row 2: knit or purl or whatever as normal
row 3: knit or purl or whatever as normal
row 4: decrease at each end
row 5: knit or purl or whatever as normal
row 6: knit or purl or whatever as normal
row 7: decrease at each end

That always confuses me too. If it is a stocking stitch pattern, I tend to increase or decrease on the knit side only, so if your next is a knit row, decrease then, then do one purl, one knit and one purl and decrease on the next knit row.
