Help! The trousers I've made are too big round the waist, how do I take them in?

I'm making DD some dungarees. I've finished the trouser part and tried them on DD and the waist is far too big. How can I make it smaller without totally destroying them? They don't have a waitband yet so it's just a raw edge at the top. I'm planning to put elastic in but I don't think that'll take them in enough. Help please! I really wanted to get them finished tonight. TIA

I wouldn't worry about it. If they're dugarees and have elasic in the back they'll hang. If you are really worried about it, you could undo the top of both side seams and re pin and sew them so that you take them in by 1/2 inch. That will tighten them by 2" all over.
Sorry I wasn't around last night.

Thanks for answering DutchOma. I did leave it in the end but I messed them up anyway. My final stitching was terrible and they're ruined. But never mind, it was fun giving them a go
