making paper flame retardent

i want to make lampshades with my craft group which i run at my dds school. i know you can buy the wire frame bit and i was going to experiment with some nice paper but can you use paper or will it catch fire? do i need to pray it with a flame retardent and if so does anyone know where oyu can get it from - thanks
