Can I curl wool?

Having left everything to the last minute as usual I need to make DS1 a Captain Hook-style curly wig for World Book Day this Thursday.

I have acres of black wool - would I be able to curl this using curling tongs on a fairly low setting, or am I just going to set fire to the stuff?

Has anyone tried this?

Do you mean knitting wool?

wind around a stick (broom handle?)
Sponge/spray with water so damp.
Leave to dry --> ringlets. Perhaps assist with squirt of hairspray?

Er - if it's fabric - not sure

Yes, knitting wool. Wil try this, especially the hairspray bit. I wonder if curling tongs would melt it?
Any other ideas?
