I have never made playdough before and 18month old dd is getting very bored in this weather, is there any chance i can make it without cream of tartar?

If not anyother suggestions of what we could do in doors?

Yes - but it won't last as well - but it will be fine for today/tomorrow

"1 tbsp cooking oil
1 cup plain flour
½ cup salt
1 cup water
2 tsps cream of tartar
1 tsp food colouring of choice

cook til it comes away from the sides of the pan, stirring constantly, knead. Allow to cool. Give to child. Go and read Heat"

Recipe from MN (as a childminder I supervise child & join in rather than reading heat - principle the same )

Thanks that sounds great, I will have a go, so if I leave the cream of tartar out, also I have not got any food colouring, can I use anything else to colour it?

newlysinglemummy · 04/02/2009 10:13

ok great thanks, but do you put anything else in it for colour? I'm thinking it might be abit boring?

It's quite plain without food colouring - you can add texture like rice/lentils or glitter

newlysinglemummy · 04/02/2009 10:44

the dough isreally sticky do you think i should add more flour?

Have you heated it enough?

Then you need to knead it quite a lot (it's very hot)

Did it work?

I think it was fine, I reheated it but then dd was playing with something else. But thanks for your help, its hard work entertaining dd in this weather...
