Only just learnt to crochet on Friday and the woman who runs my knitting group recommended it. I've been trying to make the flower corsage from the book but although I think I am following the instructions it's not looking right. I wonder if anyone can help, as I think I am going to really enjoy crocheting and I don't want to give up because I can't get it right!

Thanks purplemonkey. I am trying to make a corsage and it requires a foundation chain of 71 then the next row is a triple crochet. I'm following the instructions but it just doesn't look right so I don't know if I am doing the stitch wrong, reading the instructions wrong or the instructions are wrong. I'm going for the instructions are wrong! I might have to wait til my next knitting group session.

Bumperslucious - do you know whether the book is English or American? We have different names for stitches.

The US triple crochet is our double treble. Yarn round hook twice at beginning of stitch.

Thanks sweetem, I did kind of know that, but I am actually following the book's instructions on how to do the stitch so it shouldn't matter. It just looks a mess! In the picture it looks like there should be an extra row before the treble.

It's difficult to explain. Thanks for your help though.

can you take a picture of it? we may be able to see what's going wrong.

Hello again

Thanks for your replies, we all be hideously ill all week so haven't replied, but the good news is I went back to my lovely knitting group today and it turns out I was doing it right, if I had just continued it would have become clear! So onto the next row, it's so complex! But I am loving it much more than knitting!

I'm a crochet-aholic too - ever since my Great-Granny taught me back in the 70's!

Check out amigurumi when you get the chance - very cute crochet toys - loads of free patterns on the web like these
