How old was your child when you taught them to knit?

DD is a bit curious as her cousin (9.6) has been learning, but DD is only 4.4 - would it be madness to even attempt it?

If not, what type of needles etc would you suggest? Am only thinking of her knitting scarfs for teddies.

I don't like to say no to her learning anything purely on the grounds of age, but if I'm likely to end up in the loony bin as a result will give it a miss for now.
