quilters: how do you go about organizing your stash?

i've bought bits of scraps off ebay and i want to start my first quilt (after a few false starts!) but my stash is a mess. I've tried to organize it according to colour but often material has several colours and different backgrounds. i can see that i'm going to end up taking the lot out to look for something specific and will waste a lot of time. i have 2 small kids so at the moment the quilt is expected to be finished in 2031.

any tips gratefully received!

my friend is a quilter and she went into Muji and bought a few small clear perspex boxes with little compartments and kept them tidy in those..

Not sure if you have a Muji near you but they often have great storage solutions.

I have a couple of Really Useful boxes - the plastic ones with a clip-on lids and I just stack it in there. They are transparent enough to see what you have.

If you want to sort it by colour, I do it by predominant colour but I also have a pile for florals where there is such a mix that you can't really tell the main colour.

You can also get things like this.

Too late to put on your Christmas list perhaps?!
