yule logs, garlands, christmas tree decorations etc....

Any suggestions/ ideas for making some nice homemade christmas decorations?

One thing I was thinking of was a yule log with candle, pine cones, ribbons etc. We have recently had a tree cut back so lots of spare wood to work with.

I have checked some websites and there are lots of good ideas using materials that are alien to me!

Would like to work with natural (read cheap/free) materials as much as possible.

Haha, you're kidding yourself if you think that I can help, I'm afraid. Some of our thread might be good at this - LuLu's always Supermumming, for a start. & Nutty is creative & potentially good at craft stuff. & probably at least a few others. But I have no clue, sorry - I've just come to bump the thread again

I'm making some baubles out of papier mache as can;t trust DD not to bite the glass version.
Will paint them with non-toxic paint.

Had thought of making cheesy stars and/or ginger bread men for tree too, but am currently paranoid about mice
