Cactus costume

OK all you clever ladies, my husband is going to a western themed party and we thought a cactus would be a good costume. Any ideas or tips? WE thought the spikes could be folded pipe cleaners, but that's about it. He wouldn't look good in green tights either

long balloons and paper mache to make the arms of the cactus perhaps. He could wear all green and have a cactus hat? Tricky costume.
