does it need to be a hat? there's a great pattern on knitty.com for a shrug called nob hill which needs super chunky and knits up really quickly?

If you can't find a pattern for a super chunky hat, you could just use a pattern for a baby hat in aran or worsted weight, follow it with regard to number of sts/row etc, but knit it with your super chunky on larger needles. You should end up with an adult hat.

For example, a baby hat I'm making in 8 ply aran weight has a cast on of 92 sts for the brim, which ends up as 15 inches circumference. If you used super chunky at a gauge of about 10 sts per 4 inches/10 cm, the hat would end up at 22.5 inches circumference, which is exactly what my head measures.

Hope that makes sense. What's the gauge of your yarn? I made a lovely chunky hat for DP last winter; I may have the pattern in my bookmarks.
