am flying to switzerland tomorrow and would love to take some knitting along - anyone know latest policy on knitting needles on planes? I could take harmony options (small, wooden) or wooden dpns if that would make any difference...

I havent tried it, but I would have thought you would be OK with Harmonies. There is a nice lady on Ravelry who knits with pencils when she flies!

No idea...but I did consider taking two pencils earlier this year and using them to knit dishcloths .

Would be interested to know the answer though, despite the fact that said flight was my first in over 10 years and I have no immediate plans to fly again in the near future

I would have thought you would be OK with wooden needles, esp short ones. I havent checked to find out though.

Just found EasyJet's baggage policy (scroll down), and it looks like knitting needles are prohibited.

I'd ring/email them to check though, you never know.

Otherwise it looks like pencils are the way forward

can't believe they really are banned, but I've only just got replacement ones after losing them so I reallt mustn't risk being without again

I'll just have to read instead I guess

don't think I'll do the pencil thing - twould ruin my guage! - though maybe could paint tips onto my birch dpns and pretend those are pencils...

I think you can have circular needles.. I have on two flights to the US in the last year or so.. bamboo ones with the plasticy bit attaching them... only used small ones though and was onyl knitting a small project..

Wooden circs are probably ok, my mum's flown with them, but I'd thread a 'lifeline' into your knitting in case they whip the needles off you. UK flight regs are a lot harsher with regards to knitting needles than most other places. Personally, I'd be gutted to have a nice pair of Harmonies taken off me!

I think they are OK in checked in bags but not in hand luggage

thanks everyone - I didn't risk it as was only taking hand luggage and really just wanted ro knit in transit. I love my harmonies too much! had a wonderful time with my sister and her new baby there
