sea glass- promised DD we would make decorations with it, but how...?

DD1 is obsessed with collecting sea glass which is now filling a pot at home. I've said we can use it to make xmas decs but I could do with some ideas. I did see some lovely baubles for sale that someone had made by glueing the sea glass together so it formed a hollow sphere, but I can't work out how they did it, I presume they were made over some sort of mould, maybe in two halves and then joined? Not sure. Any other ideas welcome.

I once decorated a picture frame with glass bits, by covering the area with quick dry pollyfilla and then sticking on the glass, once dry you can paint over the white bits. I think you can adapt this idea to plywood or thick cardboard shapes to make decorations or even yogurt pots.

I'm that you live somewhere that you can collect seaglass - I love it.

You could wrap the pieces with soft craft wire to make jewellery, mobiles (using driftwood and shells too), or just decorations to hang around the house.

i wonder if a balloon would work? (for the baubles) kind of like doing papier mache. i wonder what kind of glue to use though.

you can buy clear baubles like this which i suppose you could clue onto. I am pretty sure you can get clear plastic ones too

Baker Ross has these which you can fill with glass I guess. The ones Filz linked to you could probably remove the neck bit and push small pieces into the bauble & then replace the neck piece.

Easiest would probably be to glue them to something flat in a star shape. I don't know how old your DD is but the glue you'd need to use (super glue type I would imagine) wouldn't be appropriate for a child.

Angels! This is stunning! Might have to simplify it for a child - stick on net wings for example

Is it drillable? Could you string some on wires/gold threads, as a sort of garland, or for hanging?

i think you'd have to be careful though because it could be quite heavy.

oo like the mini angels, could adapt that, although bit fiddly as the pieces are mostly grape size or smaller. Was wondering about the paper mache style idea with the balloon, need them not to stick to the balloon though (will have to do that on my own as would need proper glue and DD is rising 4.)

Glueing them onto christmas shapes is an easy solution, thanks, and made me think maybe a christmas fairy with sea glass on the skirt or something. Also might do chain of them wrapped onto soft wire to hang on tree. Very good of you to take time to answer.

we collect seaglass, too!

DH planed a piece of flat driftwood and i painted it, then we spelled out DD1's name in seaglass bits and drilled two holes in it and hung it up on her door with a piece of wire.

ok, that I like alot expat, she would love it, mn is marvellous.

just get a scrap bit of wood in B&Q and some craft paint. drill two holes in the top for the wire hanger.

write her name in pencil and UHU glue the sea glass on.
