Any ideas how to make a moses basket skirt?

I can't find a skirt for my (very old) moses basket anywhere. It seems it is only possible to buy full bedding sets and I really don't need any more bedding. So I thought I'd have a go at making one myself. I'm not the most crafty person, so has anyone else ever attempted this and got any advice?

I made one a long time ago when DS was a baby (he's now 15!!)

I made it as one piece that would sit on the bottom inside the moses basket, come up the inside sides and over the top and down the outside sides - if that makes sense!!

I used sheets of newspaper as templates. The one for the bottom I put it in then drew round where it met the sides. The sides were just strips deep and long enough.

I then used these to cut out some fabric - leaving some extra for seams then sewed (sp) them together leaving a gap along the top seam for the handles to come through. If you want the outside to be frilly, make this piece longer and just gather the top edge before sewing to the inside panel

I think I may (assuming I have not thrown it out!) have a moses basket skirt you can have if you are interested.

I made it (plus underskirt!) a couple of years ago for a (very old and borrowed) moses basket for my DD, and I am now left with the skirt and no basket. It's white with tiny pink rosebuds and covers the whole basket, inside and out.

If you're interested then measure your basket and I will try and find it and see if the proportions are right.

Thanks both. TRQ, the moses basket seems to be standard size (even though it is about 30 years old) as I bought a new mattress for it yesterday and the normal Mothercare one fits, so if you do still have yours and want to get rid, I'd love it. Would save alot of swearing at sewing machines.

Hello Katie,

Sorry to have taken a while to get back to you. I have now found the cover and also a matching matress cover. I haven't yet located the underskirt, but will keep looking.

I suggest you drop me a quick email with your address, and I can then get the lot in the post. My email address is sillymillysmummy @ yahoo.co.uk.

Thanks.
