it's really easy and I won't mess it up and end up spending £39 on one anyway!

How do you do it? I am pretty useless and have never sewn anything in my life so your most basic instructions please.

It is pretty easy, I've done it last two years. Admittedly first one was a bit shite.

But, Basically it is as easy as cutting two sides out and sewing together. then embroidering name.

A few tips...

Leave enough space to make a seam.

If putting in a lining then think about that before you start sewing or you'll end up undoing everything and starting again.

Draw the shape on first in chalk and measure

It will end up smaller than you thought, bear that in mind.

If you can, make it in felt and if you can't sew, you can get fabric glue to stick the felt together and stick stuff to it.
Felt isn't that expensive but it depends on how much you want to get into this stocking - is it just a nominal thing, or are you wanting it to be big enough to put all her Santa presents in?

Could you go for a pillow case instead? I can't (really) sew, so I bought 2 very cheap red pillowcases from eBay and some white and green felt. I cut triangles of green felt and sewed them around the top, and the letters of the dcs names in white and sewed them on. They look very festive. You could, of course, have glued the felt on.

Fabric glue sounds like it could be a lifesaver.

Would it need lining? I don't need it to be huge just able to fit some little presents in (DD is only 9months so in all honesty it's more for me than it is her!)

Would it be v.hard to make out of a non felt material? Felt sets my teeth on edge a bit.

The pillow case idea is good, maybe that would be easier!

I only suggest felt because it is a nice thick material that the glue doesn't come through, like it would on a thinner material.
But you could use that fake fur stuff, or fleece instead - if you go to a fabric shop, some of them have little pieces of things like fleece, felt and fake fur especially for craft type things.

Do you have a sewing machine because that makes it VERY easy. I made three for my dcs, and each year sew a little charm or something.
I do think stockings look nicer than pillow cases I have to say... and when their all lumpy with things the dcs get so excited...
