Stamp collecting - does it matter if the stamps have been used?

I always thought that stamp collectors like fresh, unused stamps? But my mum seems to think that used ones are just fine. Any experts out there?

it depends what interests you. Some collect unused or mint as they are called and some collect used. Some collect specific topics like birds from various countries whilst others collect anything from only one country. It's a case of finding something you like.
