Painting a table - how do I get a nice effect??

Have bought a console table from Dunelm Mill. It is unstained and very plain. I am planning to change the handle and I wanted to paint it in a sort of cream antique effect - can anyone point me in the direction of a good website that will show me how???

You need to sand it down if it's been varnished.
paint it cream
Use a dark oak wax to give a more aged effect.
Maybe sand the edges to make them look worn
