baby safe paints

i really want to take an imptiny of DSs hand / foot but DH won't let me go to one of hte proper places as he thinkd ir's a wate of money...

so please tell me where i can get some aby safe paints si i can do them myself.

sorry for bad typing. baby in other hand

Use non-toxic paints, from Woolies or ELC

Use a brush to paint onto baby's hand/foot - bear in mind they may protest madly lol

Spread fingers/unfurl foot, press down firmly onto your paper.

Some craft/paint your own china-type places offer this on a plate IYSWIM

I would have thought that any normal poster paint would be OK to use - I know I used some with DD to make hand prints

We just used acrylic paints in tube. did one hand/foot at a time and washed immediately after. The acrylics I am not sure if 'baby safe' but the colours are fab and look great on the wall. (well on a canvas on the wall
How old is your ds? When we did it the 2 year old had a fab time but the 5m old.... well you try getting them to NOT make a fist!

It will take two of you, one to hold a card or canvas thing and one to hold the baby and try to get him to open his hand. I found it best to keep the baby still and move the canvas up to his hand.
DP got him to unfurl his hand by holding him at the wrist and sort of pulling the skin on the back of the baby's hand back gently!!!
I got the paint from the pound shop, packs of primary coloured acrylics.

Be prepared for tons of mess and paint everywhere so do it near the sink in the kitchen and have wet cloths ready to wipe baby's hands and feet as soon as you've finished each one, before he can get it all over his hair/clothes/in his mouth.

not sure it's going to work.... DS is only 7 weeks old and i'm on my own...

i suppose foot prints might be doable, but flibberty is right about the fist!!!

Have you considered doing one of the 'clay' imprint things instead? I know its not paint. But you can get kits all over the place quite cheap (most come with a photoframe which varies in quality - bin it if its crap!!!!!!) We found it much easier for a baby. If the print is no good first time around you can just re-roll and try again til you get a good one. Once its fired (ok - ovenbaked) you can always paint it then to match decor.

have you used those kits? i tried one for my dog a while ago and it didn't work, i ended up returning the kit but maybe i just had a bad experience?

hi ycbs, i used normal acrilic paint for ds1 hand and foot prints, foot went ok, but hand a disater. wash off straight away though. not gonna bother with ds2.

i also did a impression kit, ds1 was great but did ds2's on the weekend and it looks crap!

i did however ( im a bit obsessed about hand and foot prints, i think! ) go to a potty party and they do your kids foot for you on a plate or something, then you decorate the plate, they then fire it and make it look lovely, mine cost £10, cheaper than the crappy clay stuff!

If she is that young I would just do footprints. Babies feet tend to be quite fat and make a good imprint!
I can't imagine how you would get a 7 week old to unclench for painting then not reclench till after you have pressed her hand on to some paper!
I'd get her nice and relaxed, lie her on some old sheets/towels, paint a foot with a good dollop of paint, then grab her ankle with one hand and the card/canvas (paper won't work for this will it?!?!?!) and put the two together. Wash that foot, and repeat on the other side.

Simple.... she says....

i used mac matt lipstick. stays on great and there are some lovely colours.

Oooh... good idea!!! that's quite a nice texture, isn't it?

But what did you use to stop it smudging? Would clearcote do it?
